Leh, Dec 14, TEN Network |    The Deputy Chairman, LAHDC, Leh, Sh. Tsering Sandup, along with Member Parliament Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal and Cuuncillor  Diskit, Tsering Angchuk met with  Minister of Defense, Govt. of India Sh. Rajnath Singh at  New Delhi yesterday and discussed different issues and demands related with army in Ladakh including Defense Minister intervention in getting good size of land from  Thoise Airport  Nubra required for construction of Terminal Building, and facilities and permission from the concern to use the airport for commercial aircrafts and to allow the parking facilities by AIF for commercial flights. To this the Minister assured the delegation to take up the matter with the concern at the earliest.

The delegation thanked Rajnath Singh  for opening Siachen Base camp for tourists, at the same time requested to issue notification at his earliest, so that the tourists may be able to visit the area. The  Minister informed the delegation that the documents are under process and assured that the notification shall also be issued soon. The delegation also requested the Defence Minister for opening the Thang Area in Nubra for Tourists as this area also holds a good tourism potential.

The delegation brought to the knowledge of the  Defence Minister that the Porters who have died prior to 2014, while serving at the Siachen Glacier did not receive labour compensation, where as the porters died after 2014 i.e. during the reign of NDA Govt., received good amount of labour compensation and requested for considering for awarding the same amount of compensation to those porters died before 2014. The Minister on spot issued direction to the concern officers to look into the matter and submit the report.

The delegation also requested Defense Minister to consider and may issue necessary direction to the concern to give preference in engaging non local labours under army.
