New Delhi: Amid a massive row over her reported remarks calling Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as “deshbhakt”, BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur on Thursday stuck to her stand and said that she had been misquoted.
Writing on Twitter in Hindi, Pragya said she was only referring to freedom fighter Udham Singh when she used the word “deshbhakt (patriotic)”.
Pragya’s tweet followed the BJP taking action against her over the reported remarks on Godse. The party removed the MP – who has been a serial offender as far as making controversial remarks is concerned – from the consultative committee on defence.
The BJP imposed a ban on her from attending the party’s parliamentary party meeting during the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament.
BJP working president JP Nadda said the party was taking disciplinary action against the MP and condemned the remarks. The disciplinary action is an attempt to douse the row that erupted yesterday after Pragya reportedly hailed Godse inside Parliament.
“The statement given by MP Pragya Thakur is condemnable. BJP never supports such statement and we do not support this ideology. We have decided that Thakur will not attend meetings of BJP parliamentary party during the session,” Nadda told reporters.
