Jammu, Nov 25, TEN Network | Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu
concluded 10 day training programme on “Recent advances in the production of bio-
fertilizers and bio-pesticides”. The training was sponsored by ICAR, New Delhi and
was first of its kind in the Jammu province. Dr. K. S. Risam, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor,
of the university was the chief guest of the function. The purpose of organizing
training programmes was to bring about the qualitative improvement and to update
the teachers, researchers and extension specialists in the latest knowledge and
techniques in the field of their specialization, to interact and exchange experiences
and also to maintain a feedback to make research and education more relevant.
Prof. V.K. Razdan, in his welcome address highlighted the importance of
biological control in the pest and disease suppression so that dependence on agro-
chemicals is reduced. Dr. K. S. Risam high lightened the importance of bio-fertilizers
and bio-pesticides and encouraged all the scientists and participants to start small
ventures so that they can produce these valuable products. He also said that Jammu
and Kashmir has a great potential of organic production and these products act as a
key for organic production. Dr. J.P. Sharma, Director Research, emphasized on the
improvement of efficacy of beneficial microbes for the management of plant diseases
and pests.
Dr. Vishal Gupta, the Course Director gave a detailed presentation regarding
the hands on training provided to the participants who, apart from Jammu and
Kashmir had come from different states. Participants appreciated the concept of
trainings and the quality of practicals conducted.. The valedictory function was also
attended by Prof D P Abrol, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Prof J. P. Sharma, Director
Research, Prof Anil Gupta, Head, Division of Plant Pathology, Dr. S K Gupta,
University Librarian along with resource persons. The vote of thanks was delivered
by Dr. Brajeshwar Singh, Course coordinator of the training programme
