Jammu, Nov 14, TEN Network | Members of the civil society of Jammu including RTI Activists and legal professional have hailed the historic judgement passed by the Supreme Court of India’s bench Led by Chief Justice, Ranjan Gogoi wherein the apex Court have cleared the path for bringing office of Chief Justice of India under the ambit of Right to Information Act.
RTI activist Raman Sharma, Deepak Sharma, Hunar Gupta, Dewaker Sharma, advocates of J & K High Court and Munish Sharma, founder Vishwas the Trust, Karan Prasher of Law Department Jammu University welcomed the judgement and also appreciated the tireless effort of RTI activist Subash Chander Agarwal.
Giving its judgement over a long pending case titled CPIO Supreme Court Vs Subash Chander Agarwal the SC have agreed with the prayer of the appellant Agarwal and brought the office of Chief Justice of India under the purview of Right to Information Act.
The decade long pending legal issue was erupted when Delhi resident and known RTI activist filed an RTI application with the CPIO of the Supreme Court of India seeking some information from the office of Chief Justice of India, which was rejected by the CPIO of the Supreme Court stating that the office of the CJI does not come under the purview of Right to Information Act.
However, the appellant contested the order of the CPIO of the SC and filed appeal in Central Information Commission, Delhi High Court and finally the Supreme Court on Wednesday gave the historic verdict.
