Lt Gen Saranjeet Singh, GOC, White knight Corps inaugurated waste management complex to boost the drive of the Armed Forces and their families to make Nagrota Military station ‘a clean and green station’.

Nagrota Military Station lies outsides the municipal limits of Jammu and hence municipal corporation services are not available for the disposal of waste generated in Nagrota garrison. The garbage and waste of station was being dumped in an open landfill area near Kore Jagir. The waste was neither being segregated before the disposal nor was the modern methods of decomposting the bio-degrable waste etc were being utilized. Improper waste disposal in open area besides being unhygienic was contributing towards pollution of environment.

With the inauguration of waste management complex at Nagrota there is a facility to segregate various types of wastes into organic, inorganic and recyclable wastes. The organic wastes is put through the newly installed Automatic composting machine which converts the waste into vermin-compost that can be used for the gardens and parks of Nagrota Military Station. The inorganic waste is processed into a fuel free dry waste management system also called the Kill Waste Machine for a scientific and environment friendly method of reducing the waste into ash which can also be used as a fertilizer. There is also a heavy duty incinerator to reduce the medical and other waste products into ash.

Nagrota Military Station has also recently banned use of plastics within the station. With the installation of new machines in the newly created Station Waste Management complex at Nagrota, it is envisaged that Nagrota Military Station will soon emerge as a clean and green station.
