Mumbai, Aug 27 : Ace designer Monisha Jaising believes being fashionable is not only about dressing up but it is a way of life one adapts.
Jaising, who last night presented her latest collection at the grand finale of Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2018, says her aim has always been to incorporate the best of world trends in her designs and reinvent them.
“Fashion to me is lifestyle, it doesn’t have to be just about clothes and shoes but about an overall lifestyle that an individual follows. Every designer follows certain trends that people worldwide are liking at the minute, it doesn’t mean that we are replicating something.
“We derive ideas from a current trend and reinvent it and push it forward basis what we see around us. Every designer has a signature element that they add to everything. My signature for example is ‘laidback glamour’,” Jaising told PTI.
The designer had Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor Khan as the muse for her new range titled, “Shades of Diva”, inspired by Lakme’s theme this year.
Jaising said the theme of the finale completely matched her design sensibilities.
“I feel every designer maintains a signature style and that everyone cannot work with every theme. One of the reasons I think Lakme chose me is because ‘Shades of a Diva’ was in perfect synchrony with my design philosophy.”
For her festive collection, the designer had put together precious elements with colorful fabrics creating unique pieces. The bright, bold colours and figure sculpting silhouettes focused on the strong modern dressing, which Jaising said is the ethos of her label.
Talking about her colour palette, the designer said, “I am partial to colours such as sea foam, peach bud, sweet lilac, crystal blue, and blush pink. Electric blue, fuchsia, peacock green, cherry red, sachet pink are borrowed from the vibrant colour palate.”
And even though her range was dominated by Western wear, Jaising said the fact that she always focuses on Indian craftsmanship makes her collections special.
“Our clothes are made here, with material from here. My clothing might be western in style but truly Indian at heart,” she added.(P.T.I)
