Inking the truth | Shivang Satya Gupta | Editor-in-Chief

47488a80-3346-4c60-98bb-ed72c5278b57The stalemate that has been going on in the state over government formation has once again proved that common man was being taken hostage by the same people whom he elects with great hopes to govern and not waste time to either satisfy their ego or bargain to settle political scores. The state which has been going through a serious trouble for the past more than two decades needs governance and an effective one not the delays and confusion where a few people are making mockery of the democracy by not doing what they are expected to do. The state witnessed wastage of precious time in the beginning of the government formation when BJP and PDP took more than a month to first cobble up the alliance and later in deciding when to stake claim leaving the state at the mercy of the bureaucrats and the governor. One wonders if we have to be governed by the bureaucrats where is the need to waste so much of money on elections of our representatives when they don’t want to represent our aspirations but their own. The state needs immediate political government and the onus lies with the PDP which has been maintaining stoic silence giving rise to numerous speculations in the state and bartering under the guise of speculative news reports. The latest salvo of reviewing the achievements of the alliance during the past ten months is a joke with the people of the state and a huge disrespect to the great statesman Mufti Mohammed Sayeed as reviewing before making alliance further means Mufti had failed in his governance of the state and this is being proved by none other than his own daughter and the party. The greatest tribute to Mufti Sahab who wanted to leave this world shoes on would have been taking over by Mehbooba immediately to save the state from going into crisis without any reason or rhyme. Mufti Sayeed had a vision for the state and he had cobbled up the so called unholy alliance with BJP keeping in view the interest of the state but it seems his own party is hellbent upon proving him wrong thus demolishing the idea that Mufti Sayeed was a great statesman and if his alliance with BJP and ten months of power have achieved nothing then it simply means that he was an ordinary man who could do nothing and unfortunately this is being hammered in by his own party instead of BJP. People need governance and not the colonial mindset of the peoples representatives who feel like monarchs once they are elected and forget that they are elected to govern for six years not for a life time and the same people would throw them out if they fail to address their concerns. On the other hand the government whether central or the state need to amend the constitution to make governance by elected representatives mandatory within shortest period of time to save the wastage of time which we Indians are known for world over. Having just six years we have already wasted more than three months unnecessarily and now no more wastage can be afforded hence it should be mandatory for the MLAs to either decide to govern or get disqualified to give chance to others like MLCs who also are elected people. Why the state should be taken hostage for the whims and fancies of a few. The country was taken as hostage by Gandhi family and now the same situation is being repeated here. Democracy in J&K is being converted into monarchy where moods of a few people decide the future of the entire state with even the majority of elected representatives waiting with bated breath as how things would change for them. While BJP is keeping mum due to its inferiority complex before Kashmiris PDP is also taking undue benefit of the situation by floating contradictory statements in the press and keeping the people guessing. While the tragedy of the Mufti family is understood but that cannot be taken as a plea to plunge the state into crisis as it would have taken just a nod and a few minutes to take over so that things run smoothly if PDP wanted to give real respect to Mufti who did not waste time by working overtime for the state resulting in his untimely death due to exertion. But now PDP without Mufti is trying not only to rewrite history but also showing disrespect to him by challenging the achievements of his ten-month rule. God knows what is in store for this state.
