30EARTH NEWS SERVICE  Jammu, Dec 15 |15: A meeting of Department Related Standing Committee (DRSC-IV) was held today under the Chairmanship of Vibodh Gupta to review the functioning of Transport Department. In the meeting, the committee recommended financial support for revival of SRTC and also suggested that 5 percent of the total revenue collected by the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) be allowed to be utilized by the department itself for its smooth functioning. Legislators, Dr. Shehnaz Ganai, Surrninder Ambardar and Sofi Mohammad Yousuf were also present in the meeting. During the meeting, Secretary Transport, Kifayat Hussain Rizvi through a power point presentation informed that during current financial year the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has achieved revenue of Rs. 10720.46 lakh on account of token tax, permit, registration, license fees and such other statutory fees, and 81791 commercial and non commercial vehicles have been registered by the MVD till November, 2015, besides the department has also issued 4008 fresh route permits. It was informed in the meeting that construction of office complexes for Transport Commissioner and RTO, Kashmir in Srinagar is under execution. It was further given out that State land has been identified for construction of ARTO, Office Complexes at Kulgam and Kargil. MVD is also in process of identifying land for construction of ARTO offices at other district headquarters. It was given out in the meeting that 100 kanal land has been identified at Jammu for construction of Institute of Driving Training and Research School (IDTRS). A Detailed Project Report (DPR) amounting to Rs 1930.08 lakh has been prepared by JKPCC and submitted to Administrative Department for approval. Meanwhile, Managing Director JKSRTC G.A. Sofi briefed the committee regarding the performance of the Corporation. Secretary Legislative Council, Abdul Majid Bhat, Director State Motor Garages, Zakir Choudhary, RTO Jammu, A.K.Khajuria and other senior officers of the department were present in the meeting.
