Jammu, Dec 14 |15: Jammu & Kashmir Centre for Creative Arts (JKCCA), Jammu in collaboration with Kala Kendra, Jammu, Art Fort India, Chandigarh and Viraj Kala Kendra, Jammu is organizing an International Art Exhibition at Kala Kendra, tomorrow. One hundred and twenty five artists from abroad and artists from twenty states of India are participating in this exhibition. The exhibition is dedicated to Late Gobind Kaur, first woman sculptor of J&K. The opening ceremony will take place tomorrow where Zafar Iqbal Manhas, MLC & former Secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages will be the chief guest and Soujanaya Sharma, Director, Local Bodies will be the guest of Honour on this occasion. Gobind Kaur was a disciple of Late V R Khajuria, a well known sculptor and painter of the state. She excelled in the discipline of sculpture by the virtue of her dedication and hard work. She taught sculpture at Institute of Music & Fine Arts, Srinagar and Jammu. Her work was influenced by the work of her teacher in her early career days but later she displayed her talent by evolving her own style with human elements in her work to convey different ideas. Her work has been displayed at state, national and international levels. For her art she has been honoured by a number of organizations including J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Jammu; Indian Academy of Fine Arts, Amritsar; Maha Kaushal Kala Parisad, Raipur and All India Fine Arts & Crafts Society, New Delhi etc. Her work has been collected by many art galleries and museums in the country.
