Sultanpur/Etah (UP), Dec 14 (PTI) Three persons, including a 60-year-old man, were killed and two others injured in separate incidents of violence in connection with Gram Panchayat polls in Uttar Pradesh.
A 60-year-old person was killed today during a clash between two rival groups in Panchopiran village in Sultanpur district, police said.
The incident took place when two groups clashed in the village by opening fire at each other, killing one Haji Muinuddin, Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Yadav said.
The incident triggered protests from supporters of a group who set an SUV and a scooter on fire.
Heavy police force has been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incident, the police said.
In another incident in Etah district, a 20-year-old boy was shot dead yesterday over alleged party enmity at Jaithera village in Etah district.
An FIR has been lodged in this connection. The accused have been identified but police chose not to disclose the details. However, no arrests have been made yet.
In a separate incident of firing, two persons identified as Kahmir Singh and Dileep Kumar were shot in Pipehara village in Kotwali Jaithera yesterday.
An FIR was lodged in this connection following which a case has been filed under IPC section 307 (Attempt to Murder).
Both the injured have been admitted to a hospital.
However, no arrest has been made so far.
Meanwhile, Shishupal Singh Yadav, former MLA and district president (Congress) blamed the police for its failure to curb such incidents when preventive action could have been taken in advance.
A 35-year-old man was shot dead last night by Sunil Kumar and three others last night at Katia village in Badaun district, SP Anil Kumar Yadav said today.
The body of the victim has been sent for post-mortem examination, police said, adding no arrests has been made so far, they said, adding investigation in the matter is underway.
