Jammu, Dec 07 |15: Governor N. N. Vohra has stressed the need to significantly enlarge the corpus of the Flag Day fund to enhance the welfare of our valiant soldiers, airmen and sailors in recognition of their enormous sacrifices for safeguarding the honour, glory, and safety of the Motherland. This was stated by him during the annual Armed Forces Flag Day ceremony held at Raj Bhavan here today. While interacting with the retired Army personnel, the Governor emphasized the importance of mobilizing much larger fund collection and observed that this Day is a very important occasion for the entire nation to demonstrate its gratitude towards the ex-Service personnel and their families The Governor enquired from Brigadier Harcharan Singh (Retd), Director Sainik Welfare about the welfare of ex-Servicemen in the State and observed that every required initiative should be taken to resolve the problems faced by the retired personnel. The Governor also discussed with Mr. B.R Sharma, Chief Secretary, and R.K Goyal, Principal Secretary Home, matters which had been pending at the last meeting of the Rajya Sainik Board and urged them to ensure prompt resolution of any matter which is awaiting decision. The Governor advised Director Sainik Welfare Board, to launch a vigorous round the year campaign to significantly enlarge the Corpus Fund by sensitizing the public at large and approach philanthropists, business associations, banks, educational institutions, people from trade and commerce to motivate them to contribute towards the welfare of the ex-Servicemen and their families. The Governor was informed that the Sainik Welfare Association had launched a website for enabling online donations.
