Nubra, Sept 02: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Nubra, Tufail Iqbal, has announced a comprehensive initiative aimed at identifying and supporting transgender individuals within the region. The landmark announcement aimed towards the inclusion and welfare of the transgender community came during a pivotal meeting held at the Conference Hall of the SDM Office.
The meeting, chaired by SDM Iqbal, focused on the critical task of identifying transgender individuals in each village of the Nubra block. This initiative is designed to ensure that these individuals can access and benefit from various government schemes aimed at their welfare and social integration.
Attendees of the meeting included key representatives from each village, including the Head Master, Village Level Worker (VLW), Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Worker, and Namberdar. These committee members have been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting awareness campaigns and surveys within their respective villages.
SDM Tufail Iqbal stressed the significance of the initiative, emphasizing that the identification process is crucial for enabling transgender individuals to receive the necessary support and resources. He has set a 10-day deadline for the submission of survey reports, urging all committee members to complete the identification process promptly.
“This initiative represents a significant step forward in our commitment to inclusivity and support for all members of our community,” SDM Iqbal said. “By identifying and assisting transgender individuals, we aim to ensure they are recognized and can fully participate in and benefit from government programs.”
The Nubra administration’s proactive approach reflects a broader commitment to social equity and inclusion, setting a precedent for similar efforts in other regions.
